Mechanical Preconstruction Manager – National (Remote / Travel Hybrid)

We are partnered with a well-established mechanical contractor that is seeking an experienced Mechanical Preconstruction Manager to support large-scale commercial and light industrial projects across a national portfolio. This is a remote-first role with periodic travel to project sites, client meetings, and regional offices as needed.

This position is responsible for leading preconstruction efforts including conceptual estimating, budgeting, scope development, and client engagement across complex mechanical projects. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems and has a strong track record supporting large, technically complex projects from pursuit through construction handoff.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical preconstruction efforts for large commercial and light industrial projects
• Develop conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and value engineering strategies
• Review drawings, specifications, and design documents for completeness and constructability
• Coordinate with operations, engineering, and field teams to ensure seamless transition from preconstruction to execution
• Manage scope development, bid packages, and subcontractor/vendor engagement
• Participate in client meetings, design-assist discussions, and pursuit interviews
• Perform risk analysis, cost modeling, and schedule input for complex projects
• Support business development efforts through early-stage project engagement
• Ensure alignment between estimating, design intent, and field execution strategy

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in mechanical preconstruction or estimating with a commercial mechanical contractor
• Strong background in HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems
• Proven experience on large-scale projects with budgets of $10M+
• Experience across multiple sectors including data centers, healthcare, education, government, life science, advanced manufacturing, and entertainment facilities
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems design, cost drivers, and construction sequencing
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications and translate into accurate estimates and scopes
• Experience working in design-build and design-assist environments preferred
• Strong communication and client-facing skills with ability to lead pursuits and presentations

Preferred Experience

• Data center and mission-critical mechanical preconstruction experience
• Experience with large, multi-phase institutional or industrial projects
• Background supporting national or multi-market project portfolios
• Experience collaborating with engineering teams during design development
