Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to support complex construction and infrastructure projects by providing strategic contract administration, risk assessment, and negotiation expertise. This role serves as a key advisor to project teams and leadership, helping guide business decisions through the review, analysis, and negotiation of contractual agreements.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with alternative project delivery methods, strong business acumen, and the ability to identify and mitigate contractual risks while fostering collaborative relationships across multiple departments and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide contractual guidance and support to project teams involved in Design-Build (DB), Lease-Leaseback (LLB), Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), and Public-Private Partnership (P3) projects.
- Review Requests for Proposals (RFPs), contracts, and procurement documents to identify contractual risks and recommend appropriate modifications and mitigation strategies.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and administer prime contracts, subcontracts, amendments, and related project agreements.
- Conduct comprehensive contract risk assessments and communicate findings to project leadership and stakeholders.
- Partner with business development, preconstruction, operations, finance, insurance, tax, cybersecurity, and legal teams to ensure thorough contract review and risk management.
- Serve as a subject matter resource for contract-related questions, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Support project teams throughout the contract lifecycle, from proposal and procurement through project execution and closeout.
- Manage multiple priorities and deadlines across a portfolio of active projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist in developing and improving contract management processes, templates, and best practices.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in contract management, construction administration, legal operations, or a related role.
- Significant experience supporting Design-Build, Lease-Leaseback, CMAR, and/or Public-Private Partnership (P3) projects.
- Demonstrated success negotiating complex commercial and construction agreements.
- Experience working with industry-standard contract forms, including DBIA, AIA, ConsensusDocs, and EJCDC.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Legal Studies, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of contract law principles and construction-related legal concepts, including liability, indemnification, insurance requirements, warranties, intellectual property rights, standard of care, and risk allocation.
- Knowledge of public contracting requirements, procurement practices, and applicable state and local regulations.
- Strong business judgment with the ability to balance legal, operational, and commercial considerations during negotiations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to build credibility and strong working relationships with project teams, executives, legal counsel, and external partners.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across legal, technical, financial, and operational disciplines.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and contract management software platforms.
- Strong leadership presence, professionalism, integrity, and commitment to ethical business practices.
