Diamond Peak Recruiting is partnering with a growing mechanical contractor seeking a Mechanical Estimator to support large-scale commercial and industrial construction projects throughout the Southeast. This position can be based out of the company's offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, or Winston-Salem, NC.
This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator looking to work on complex HVAC, piping, and plumbing projects across healthcare, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, education, and government markets while advancing their career with a highly respected contractor.
Position Overview
The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for large commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects. This individual will work closely with preconstruction, operations, project management, vendors, and subcontractors to develop detailed cost proposals and support project pursuits from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for HVAC, piping, and plumbing construction projects
- Perform quantity takeoffs and analyze project plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Develop conceptual budgets, GMPs, and hard bid estimates
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions
- Collaborate with project management and operations teams during project handoff
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and client presentations as needed
- Maintain current knowledge of labor rates, material pricing, and market conditions
- Assist with bid leveling, scope analysis, and risk assessment
- Support multiple estimates and pursuits simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience estimating commercial or industrial mechanical construction projects
- Experience estimating HVAC, piping, and plumbing scopes on projects with mechanical budgets of $8M+
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction methods, and estimating practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents
- Experience developing conceptual estimates, budgets, GMPs, and competitive bids
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
