Project Engineer – Commercial Tenant Improvement Construction

Location: Phoenix, AZ
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: 80-95K base

About the Role

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join their growing construction team in Phoenix, AZ. This position supports the successful delivery of commercial tenant improvement (TI) projects from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and eager to grow into a Project Manager role while working in a fast-paced commercial construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in the planning, execution, and completion of commercial TI projects.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and document control.
  • Assist with project scheduling and monitor progress against milestones.
  • Track project budgets, change orders, purchase orders, and cost reports.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and action items.
  • Perform site visits to monitor construction progress, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Assist with project closeout, including punch lists, as-built documentation, warranties, and final turnover packages.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, building codes, and company quality standards.
  • Foster strong working relationships with clients, design teams, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent construction experience).
  • 1-3 years of experience in commercial construction, preferably with tenant improvement projects.
  • Working knowledge of construction documents, contracts, and project administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar construction management software.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Experience with occupied renovation or fast-track commercial projects.
  • Knowledge of local Phoenix building codes and permitting processes.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • LEED project experience is a plus.
