Project Engineer – Commercial & Multifamily Construction

Location: Portland, OR
Compensation: $85,000–$95,000 base salary
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join their commercial and multifamily construction team in Portland, Oregon. The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, and vendors to support the successful delivery of complex construction projects from preconstruction through completion.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer or construction professional who wants to build a strong foundation in project management while gaining hands-on experience with commercial and multifamily construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents with the day-to-day administration and coordination of construction projects.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and other project documentation.
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor coordination, procurement, and scope management.
  • Prepare, track, and distribute RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
  • Assist with project schedules, cost tracking, change orders, and monthly reporting.
  • Review subcontractor invoices and assist with pay application processing.
  • Coordinate material procurement and monitor delivery schedules.
  • Participate in project meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Help identify potential project issues and work with the project team to develop solutions.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure records are current and organized.
  • Conduct site visits and coordinate with field personnel as needed.
  • Support quality control, safety initiatives, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with project closeout, punch lists, warranties, and turnover documentation.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support successful project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in commercial, multifamily, or related construction preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to visit active construction sites.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
