Compensation

  • Project Manager I: $120,000–$140,000 base
  • Project Manager II: $140,000–$160,000 base

Final title and compensation will be based on mechanical construction experience, project size, leadership responsibility, and overall qualifications.

Position Overview

We are seeking Mechanical Construction Project Managers at the PM I and PM II levels to support a high-profile Department of Energy project in Amarillo, Texas.

This position will manage complex mechanical construction scopes involving HVAC, mechanical piping, and sheet metal systems. The Project Manager will be responsible for project planning, financial performance, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor coordination, client communication, quality, and overall project delivery.

The ideal candidate has experience managing mechanical construction projects in industrial, government, mission-critical, manufacturing, or other highly regulated environments.

Position Levels

Project Manager I

The Project Manager I will manage defined mechanical scopes or smaller projects with support from senior leadership. This level is appropriate for someone who has progressed beyond the Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager level and is ready to assume direct responsibility for project delivery.

Preferred background:

  • Approximately 4–7 years of construction experience
  • At least 2–3 years supporting or managing mechanical projects
  • Experience managing defined HVAC, piping, plumbing, or sheet metal scopes
  • Ability to manage budgets, schedules, procurement, documentation, and subcontractors
  • Experience leading Project Engineers or Assistant Project Managers is preferred

Project Manager II

The Project Manager II will independently lead larger or more complex mechanical projects and may oversee multiple project team members, subcontractors, and major scopes of work. This person will have greater responsibility for financial performance, client relationships, risk management, and team development.

Preferred background:

  • Approximately 7–10+ years of mechanical construction experience
  • Proven responsibility for large or technically complex mechanical projects
  • Experience managing HVAC, piping, and sheet metal scopes from preconstruction through closeout
  • Strong financial, contractual, scheduling, and leadership capabilities
  • Experience leading Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, and subcontractor teams

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning and execution of HVAC, mechanical piping, and sheet metal scopes.
  • Establish project budgets, schedules, procurement plans, staffing requirements, and execution strategies.
  • Maintain responsibility for project cost, schedule, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with project executives, superintendents, engineers, BIM/VDC teams, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts, submittals, shop drawings, and project requirements.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement logs, cost reports, forecasts, and closeout documentation.
  • Track project financial performance, including committed costs, labor productivity, cash flow, billing, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, procurement risks, and potential schedule impacts.
  • Negotiate and manage subcontractor and vendor agreements.
  • Lead project meetings and provide accurate status reports to company leadership and the client.
  • Coordinate mechanical equipment, ductwork, sheet metal fabrication, piping, controls, insulation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Work with BIM/VDC teams to resolve coordination issues before installation.
  • Partner with field leadership to develop labor plans, installation sequences, short-term schedules, and productivity goals.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are released, fabricated, delivered, and installed according to the project schedule.
  • Manage change-order pricing, documentation, negotiation, and approval.
  • Ensure completed work complies with project specifications, applicable codes, quality standards, and customer expectations.
  • Support inspections, system startup, testing, commissioning, punch-list completion, and turnover.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the client, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and other project team members.
  • Ensure compliance with all site-specific safety, security, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience managing commercial, industrial, government, or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Strong mechanical construction knowledge involving HVAC, mechanical piping, plumbing, or sheet metal systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, procurement, subcontractors, and client expectations.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documents.
  • Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, cost forecasting, monthly reporting, and project closeout.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction project-management software.
  • Ability to work onsite in Amarillo, Texas.
  • Ability to satisfy all site-access, security, and employment requirements associated with a Department of Energy project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, construction engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working for a mechanical contractor or self-performing general contractor.
  • Experience managing HVAC, piping, and sheet metal scopes on highly regulated projects.
  • Previous Department of Energy, federal government, power generation, industrial, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data center, or advanced-manufacturing project experience.
  • Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with BIM/VDC coordination, prefabrication, mechanical system startup, and commissioning.
  • Experience overseeing direct-hire mechanical craft labor is preferred.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, local position based onsite in Amarillo, Texas. The Project Manager will work in both office and active construction-site environments while supporting a high-profile Department of Energy project.
