Our client is a leading manufacturer of custom modular buildings serving the multifamily, workforce housing, hospitality, affordable housing, and light commercial markets throughout the Western United States and Canada.
As the Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role within the Engineering Department, providing electrical engineering and design expertise for a diverse portfolio of modular construction projects. This position is responsible for developing practical, constructible, and code-compliant electrical solutions from initial design through construction.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong electrical engineer who understands building electrical systems, enjoys solving complex design challenges, and can effectively collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, production teams, subcontractors, clients, and other project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical engineering and design for multifamily, affordable housing, hospitality, workforce housing, and light commercial modular construction projects.
- Develop electrical designs and contract drawings from schematic design through construction documents.
- Design electrical distribution, power, lighting, and related building electrical systems.
- Develop electrical layouts, one-line diagrams, schedules, details, and construction documentation using Revit and related design software.
- Perform engineering calculations and equipment selection based on project requirements.
- Evaluate design alternatives and apply sound engineering judgment to resolve complex design challenges.
- Design systems with consideration for modular manufacturing, transportation, installation, field conditions, constructability, and project-specific requirements.
- Review architectural plans, specifications, construction documents, and other project information to identify requirements, conflicts, and opportunities for improvement.
- Apply knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes, standards, and regulations.
- Develop practical, cost-effective, energy-efficient, and sustainable electrical design solutions where appropriate.
- Maintain a high level of technical quality, accuracy, and consistency in electrical designs and construction documents.
- Stay current with changes to building codes, NEC requirements, electrical technologies, energy-efficiency practices, and industry standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve electrical design processes, documentation, coordination, and modular construction practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering Department.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Electrical Designers and other team members as appropriate.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering environment and participate in department and company meetings.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 5+ years of electrical engineering experience within the building construction industry.
- Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for commercial, multifamily, hospitality, or similar building projects.
- Proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes and standards.
- Experience developing electrical construction documents from schematic design through construction documents.
- Experience modeling electrical systems and developing coordinated construction documents in Revit.
- Strong understanding of electrical power distribution, lighting, and building electrical systems.
- Experience coordinating electrical designs with other building disciplines.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy.
- Experience with modular construction, wood framing, or other prefabricated building systems is preferred.

Physical & Work Environment
The position requires the ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, use hands and fingers to operate a computer, and occasionally reach, stoop, or kneel. Light to moderate lifting may be required.
The work environment includes shared office space with moderate noise levels associated with computers, phones, printers, and normal business activity.
