Traveling Construction Superintendent – Luxury Retail & Hospitality

Position Overview
Our client is a well-established Chicago-based commercial general contractor seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to oversee high-end commercial construction projects throughout the United States.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned Superintendent who enjoys working on complex, detail-driven projects and is comfortable traveling extensively. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in luxury retail and hospitality construction, with a proven ability to manage projects from mobilization through completion while maintaining exceptional standards for quality, schedule, safety, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day field operations on commercial construction projects nationwide.
- Lead and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
- Maintain project schedules and proactively identify and resolve schedule issues.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, Owners, and other project stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are constructed in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Oversee site safety and ensure compliance with company and OSHA requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintain a high level of workmanship and quality control.
- Manage project logistics, site organization, material deliveries, and manpower.
- Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders as needed.
- Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates on project progress.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project partners.
- Drive projects toward successful, on-time completion while maintaining budget and quality objectives.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of commercial construction Superintendent experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing luxury retail construction projects.
- Strong hospitality construction experience required.
- Experience with high-end finishes and detail-oriented construction environments.
- Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and complex project logistics.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, scheduling, and project sequencing.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Proficiency with common construction technology/project management platforms.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States.
- Ability to represent the company professionally with sophisticated clients and project stakeholders.

Compensation & Benefits
