Remote Mechanical Preconstruction Manager
We are partnered with a leading mechanical construction contractor seeking an experienced Mechanical Preconstruction Manager to support major commercial and industrial projects nationwide. This is a remote position with approximately 30–50% national travel, typically requiring up to two weeks of travel per month depending on project demands.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical construction preconstruction and estimating, with experience leading the preconstruction process for $15M+ mechanical projects involving HVAC, piping, and plumbing scopes.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical preconstruction efforts from conceptual design through project award.
- Develop and manage budgets, estimates, bid strategies, and value-engineering opportunities for large mechanical construction projects.
- Review plans, specifications, design documents, and subcontractor/vendor proposals to identify scope, cost, and constructability considerations.
- Develop detailed estimates for HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
- Coordinate with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams throughout the preconstruction process.
- Participate in design-assist and design-development meetings, providing constructability and cost guidance.
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, exclusions, and potential cost impacts.
- Develop and maintain conceptual and detailed project budgets through various stages of design.
- Assist with procurement strategies, subcontractor selection, and vendor negotiations.
- Support project handoff from preconstruction to operations to ensure scope, budget, and project assumptions are clearly communicated.
- Travel nationally to support client meetings, project pursuits, preconstruction meetings, and other project requirements.

Typical mechanical project budgets are $15M+.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in mechanical construction preconstruction/estimating.
- Proven experience managing preconstruction for large-scale mechanical construction projects, preferably $15M+.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, piping, and plumbing construction.
- Ability to develop and manage detailed mechanical estimates and project budgets.
- Experience reviewing construction documents, drawings, specifications, and design packages.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction means, methods, materials, labor, and subcontractor/vendor pricing.
- Experience working directly with owners, GCs, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and pursuits simultaneously.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally approximately 30–50%, with travel potentially reaching two weeks per month depending on project requirements.
