Base Salary: Up to $160,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
Functional Split: 60% Operations / 40% Preconstruction
Our client is seeking an experienced MEP Coordinator to support the successful planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across construction projects in the Sacramento market.
This role bridges field operations and preconstruction, with approximately 60% of the focus on active project operations and 40% on preconstruction planning, estimating support, and constructability reviews. The ideal candidate has a strong technical understanding of MEP systems, experience coordinating subcontractors and design teams, and the ability to identify and resolve potential conflicts before they affect project schedules, budgets, or quality.
The MEP Coordinator will work closely with project managers, superintendents, estimators, design consultants, trade partners, and owners to ensure systems are coordinated, constructible, and delivered in accordance with project requirements.
Lead day-to-day MEP coordination activities across active construction projects, ensuring mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other building systems are properly integrated.
Facilitate coordination meetings with MEP subcontractors, general contractors, design teams, and other project stakeholders.
Review construction documents, shop drawings, submittals, and coordination drawings to identify discrepancies, design gaps, and potential system conflicts.
Manage BIM coordination and clash detection processes, including the review and resolution of clashes using tools such as Autodesk Revit and Navisworks.
Coordinate the development, review, and implementation of coordinated MEP shop drawings and installation layouts.
Work with field supervision to ensure coordinated drawings translate into efficient installation sequencing and practical field execution.
Identify and resolve constructability issues, routing conflicts, access and clearance concerns, and equipment coordination challenges.
Track coordination issues, maintain issue logs, assign responsibilities, and drive timely resolution.
Support project scheduling by identifying MEP procurement requirements, equipment lead times, installation milestones, and critical-path activities.
Conduct field walks and verify installed conditions against approved coordination drawings and project requirements.
Support quality control, commissioning readiness, system testing, and turnover documentation.
Proactively communicate risks affecting cost, schedule, safety, quality, and project delivery.
Participate in preconstruction planning for upcoming projects, including design reviews, constructability assessments, and MEP scope evaluations.
Review drawings and specifications at schematic design, design development, and construction document stages to identify coordination gaps and design risks.
Support MEP estimating through scope reviews, quantity takeoffs, subcontractor bid evaluations, and pricing validation.
Assist with the development and review of MEP budgets, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives.
Evaluate proposed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for constructability, installation sequencing, maintainability, and overall project efficiency.
Participate in subcontractor procurement, bid leveling, scope clarification, and trade partner selection.
Identify long-lead equipment and material requirements and coordinate procurement strategies with the project team.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners to resolve design questions before construction begins.
Provide operational feedback to preconstruction teams based on lessons learned from active projects.
Help establish preliminary MEP coordination plans, project execution strategies, and BIM requirements before mobilization.
3+ years of experience in MEP coordination, mechanical or electrical construction, plumbing systems, or commercial construction project delivery.
Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple MEP trades on commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, multifamily, or other complex building projects.
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems and their interfaces with structural and architectural components.
Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and coordination models.
Familiarity with BIM coordination, clash detection, and model-based construction workflows.
Ability to interpret construction documents and identify constructability issues before they impact field installation.
Experience collaborating with project managers, superintendents, estimators, design consultants, and subcontractors.
Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and meeting facilitation skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities across active construction projects and preconstruction pursuits.
Proficiency with construction technology and document management platforms.
Experience with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks Manage, BIM 360, or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Experience with Procore or comparable construction project management software.
Previous experience supporting both project operations and preconstruction or estimating functions.
Knowledge of MEP estimating, subcontractor procurement, value engineering, and cost control.
Experience with commissioning, equipment startup, systems testing, and project closeout.
Familiarity with California building codes, Title 24 energy requirements, and applicable mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire codes.
Experience working on projects in the Sacramento region and throughout Northern California.
Relevant technical education, apprenticeship, trade experience, or construction management training.
The successful candidate will be evaluated on their ability to:
Reduce field conflicts, rework, and coordination-related change orders.
Maintain timely resolution of design and coordination issues.
Improve coordination between preconstruction, project management, and field operations.
Support accurate MEP budgeting and effective subcontractor scope development.
Improve installation sequencing, schedule reliability, and field productivity.
Identify cost-saving and constructability opportunities early in the project lifecycle.
Support successful commissioning, turnover, and project closeout.
Base salary: Up to $160,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Location: Sacramento, California.
Employment type: Full-time.
Work focus: 60% Operations / 40% Preconstruction.
Work environment: A combination of project-site visits, coordination meetings, and office-based preconstruction activities.
Additional benefits, bonus eligibility, vehicle allowance, travel requirements, and other compensation components may be specified by the hiring organization.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong, solutions-oriented construction professional who understands both how MEP systems are designed and how they must be installed in the field. They can move comfortably between active job sites and early-stage project planning, anticipate coordination challenges, and work collaboratively with trade partners and design teams to protect project cost, schedule, quality, and performance.
This position is particularly well suited to an experienced MEP Coordinator, MEP Project Engineer, Assistant MEP Manager, or mechanical/electrical construction professional ready to take on a broader role spanning both operations and preconstruction.
